Anthology Submissions

Guidelines

Made in Britain

... the title says it all – this exemplary anthology is open ONLY to writers from the Sceptered Isle  (England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales – Gibraltar and the Falklands too!)  - and ex-pats of course!  Your story needn’t necessarily be set in England, but should carry that unmistakable British tone that everyone knows and loves.
There’s no set theme – just good ol’ spooky, scary, horror stories – nothing extreme or gratuitous please!
The anthology will be compiled by the superlative horror author, Kevin Kennedy, and published in time for Xmas by the incomparable HellBound Books Publishing.

Schlock! Horror! - SUBMISSIONS NOW CLOSED!

An anthology of short stories based upon/inspired by and in loving homage to all of those great gorefest movies and books of the 1980's (doesn't need to be set in that era!), the golden age when horror well and truly came kicking, screaming and spraying blood, gore & body parts out from the shadows...

It was the dacade that brought us everything in the cinema and on VHS from the Italian 'nasties' to Elm Street, The Lost Boys, Hellraiser, The Thing, Day of the Dead, Reanimator, Return of the Living Dead, My Bloody Valentine, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Cannibal Holocaust….and superlative directors such as David Cronenburg, John Waters, Roger Corman and - of course - Clive Barker.

All of this was, naturally, reflected in the books we devoured - Guy N Smith, Clive Barker's Books of Blood, James Herbert, Jack Ketchum, Gary Brandner and Richard Laymon, to name but a mere handfiul.

Your 80's themed/inspired tales of terror wil be adjudicated and compiled by one Mr Bret McCormick, himself a writer, producer and director of many a schlock classic, including Bio-Tech Warrior, Time Tracers, The Abomination, Ozone: The Attack of the Redneck Mutants and the inimitable Repligator.  Check out his formidable resume here on IMDB...

So, you get the picture - we want your darkest splatter, most horrific gruesomeness and stomach-churning detail, all wrapped up in a gripping story played out by the strongest of characters that will keep even the most hardiest of souls wide awake and trembling in the wee hours.

Road Kill: Texas Horror by Texas Writers, Vol. 3.

Hello, E.R. Bills here. I am the editor of Vol 3 of the upcoming horror title, Road Kill: Texas Horror by Texas Writers, from Hellbound Books Publishing. Due to the popularity of the Road Kill anthology, I’m “scaring” up stories from Texas writers again. I’m looking for original horror stories, 1,500–10,000 words, give or take. If I receive a 14,000-word story that really blows my hair back, I will consider it. And the same for an 800-word tale. I prefer not to receive stories that have already appeared elsewhere.

Submissions should be sent to erbillsthinks@gmail.com

The primary objective of Road Kill is to promote new and up-and-coming horror writers in Texas, but the collection will include some works from established writers (previous contributors to Road Kill are invited to submit as well). The stories must be written and submitted by Texas writers and they must take place in Texas—hence the title. No one will be making a fortune, but we will be paying one-time fees (based on word count) and if the anthology sells over 5,000 copies, royalty percentages—1% per writer—will kick in. Every writer will receive two free copies and enjoy discounted wholesale pricing on any copies of the book that he or she purchases to carry and sell on their own.

The scale for writer stipends is as follows:
10,000 words – $100 / 7,500 words – $75 / 5,000 words – $50 / 2,500 words – $25 / 1,500 words – $15

All payments will be made upon official acceptance and when acceptance is communicated, each author will need to supply a short bio.

I will be requesting one-year non-exclusive rights. This means I will use your story in this anthology and we can print excerpts of it online and otherwise (for promotional purposes, etc.), but you can still sell it a year down the road to someone else, we simply request that you note in later publications that it appeared here first. Authors retain all TV and/or film rights—you own them outright—but, again, we request that the writer of any story that receives TV or film treatment note that the story appeared in Road Kill Vol. 3.

The deadline to turn in stories is June 15, 2018, and our intent is to have the book printed and available by October 2018, in plenty of time for Halloween. Hellbound Books and I will be promoting Road Kill Vol. 3 and submitting it for review to local, state and national media outlets. We will also be setting up signings and appearances around the state for the authors themselves to promote the book. Past venues have included Book People (Austin), Brazos Bookstore (Houston), Fleur Fine Books (Port Neches), Galveston Bookshop, The Twig Bookshop (San Antonio), etc.

If your work is chosen to appear in this collection of Texas horror, you will join a talented group of upcoming and accomplished authors and expand your reach in the competitive field we are all trying to excel in. Hope to see your work soon!
